“She reads the words easily but just doesn’t grasp the information.”

“He can tell you so many ideas but when he goes to write them, it all falls apart.”

Lots of students master the basic skills of reading and writing but have trouble managing the comprehension and composition challenges of the upper grades. Often, these difficulties are rooted in weaknesses in language processing, so SLPs can be an ideal source for support.

Effective reading and writing remediation starts with pinpointing the nature of the student’s struggle and choosing the right intervention method for their needs. Too many professionals skip this step and launch right into time-consuming and expensive interventions that are a poor fit for the child.

At BC, our interventionists are also diagnosticians. We bring the whole process together, carefully learning the child’s profile before selecting the just-right treatment approaches. When it’s time to make that selection, we have a lot to choose from. The following are a few of our frequently used tools for reading comprehension and written expression.

  • Project Read Story Form & Report Form comprehension programs
  • Project ReadFraming Your Thoughts
  • Shape Coding™
  • The Writing Revolution
  • Lindamood-Bell’s Visualizing & Verbalizing
  • Structured Academic Language Intervention (SALI)

Literacy intervention is available through in-person or remote sessions or a combination of both. Many clients appreciate scheduling most of their sessions as remote meetings for convenience and attending in-person sessions on occasion for that personal connection with their therapist. We know it’s a challenge to juggle a family’s schedule. You and your clinician will work together to find the right plan that connects your child’s therapy goals and your scheduling needs.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Our reading and writing interventions are provided by Speech-Language Pathologists who specialize in literacy. We bill them as Speech-Language Therapy, based on session length at the following rates.

How long will my child’s sessions be?

It depends on your child, their needs, and their learning style. Some students can be very productive in a full hour session. Others are at their best for short periods of time and thrive on frequent, brief sessions. You will work together with your SLP to figure out the right therapy arrangement for your child and your budget.
