PEERS is a highly-structured social skills intervention designed for for middle and high school students. Its effectiveness has been demonstrated in dozens of studies around the globe, including randomized control trials, the gold standard of treatment research.

The 7-week, biweekly program includes training components for the teen and their parents or caregivers. Each day, 2 sessions are run simultaneously. In one session, the teens work with our PEERSⓇ Certified Provider to learn new social skills through structured lessons and role play as well as real-world practice and experiences. In the other session, parents or caregivers participate in their own structured session in which they learn how to support their teen in applying the targeted skills in their daily life. The curriculum is focused on impactful, real-world skills such as:

Conversational Skills  Handling Rumors & Gossip
Recognizing and Choosing Friends Teasing and Bullying
Changing Reputation Planning and Attending Get-togethers
Navigating Disagreements Texting and Group Chats

Each week, the teens and their parents/caregivers go home with an assignment for putting the new skill into action. The program includes baseline and post-treatment measurements so individual outcomes can be identified and plans made for future steps.

Comprehension Club

Who is it for?

Rising 3rd – 5th Graders

When does it run?

Mondays & Wednesdays 3:30 – 4:30 (Start date July 7)

What is the cost?

$1600

The Comprehension Club program is designed specifically for rising 3rd-5th grade students who have difficulties with reading comprehension that are connected to broader challenges with expressive and receptive language.

Unlike comprehension programs that simply present repeated practice with reading passages and answering questions, our approach directly addresses the underlying weaknesses in vocabulary knowledge, language structure skills, and inferencing that form the primary obstacles to understanding text in the upper elementary grades.

Our approach uses the SALI progam, a language intervention created by BC’s own Samantha Townsend and Jeanne Tighe. The SALI program is organized into four structured learning blocks:

  • Semantics: building vocabulary through studying related words
  • Morphology: building vocabulary through learning meaningful parts of words
  • Syntax: mastering sentence structure & comprehension
  • Discourse Comprehension: applying story elements, main idea, and inferencing skills

The Comprehension Club is led by a certified Speech-Language Pathologist who uses interactive lessons, engaging texts, and meaningful feedback to help students strengthen their language foundations and become more independent, confident readers.

Led by a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, this group uses the evidence-based Lively Letters program to target phonemic awareness, letter-sound mastery, and early decoding through engaging songs, stories, and interactive games.

The Lively Letters approach uses catchy art and stories to create links between the shapes of written letters and the way their sounds are produced in our mouths. It is a truly multisensory approach that connects how letters look on the page, how they sound to our ears, and how those sounds feel when we form them.

If your child hasn’t had success with the usual letter-keyword-sound teaching approach, this is the program you’ve been looking for!
